VIRTUAL GARMET SIMULATION

  The competitive global market of today’s world aims in producing the products at a

good  quality  and  at  a  less  time  to  compete  with  the  fast  moving  trends.  Technological

development  in  every  aspect  is  required  to  meet  the  needs.  Neural  networks  are  one  of  the

unimaginable achievements of the humans also the image processing.  This presentation will

deal with their applications in the virtual garment simulation.

3D  surface  scanning  technology  has  evolved  as  an  industrial  tool  to  measure  and

compare  the  three  dimensional  objects  at  varying  stages  of  assembly  for  the  process  of

product measurement. Use of this technology for the human form is much more difficult. The

human  body  morphology  is  a  complex  organic  form  that  can  undergo  subtle  changes  over

time  such  as  posture,  weight  etc.  Technologies  used  commercially  for  the  digital

measurement  of  the  human  body  can  be  divided  into  four  major  groups  (see  Figure  1):  (a)

laser scanning, (b) white light scanning, (c)Passive methods (as photogrammetry, silhouette,

visual  hull),  (d)  technologies  based  on  other  active  sensors  (as  millimeter-wave  radar,  TOF

3D cameras) or touch sensors.

With  the  help  of  3D  body  scanners,  highly  accurate  methods  for  the  acquisition  of

body dimensions have been developed that have a multitude of uses.  It enables the contact-

free and fully-automated acquisition of more than 140 body dimensions and an exact, three-

dimensional  image  of  the  human  body.  The  scan  time  per  person  lasts  for  less  than  10

seconds, from head to foot.
