THERMAL PERFORMANCE OF SOLAR AIR HEATER

Three types of solar air heaters are compared for their thermal efficiency. First type is a simple flat plate collector (1.62 m2) air heater having aluminum absorber plate. The air blows over the absorber plate. Baffles are placed over the absorber plate to produce the air turbulence. In second and third type solar air heaters thermal mass of Mild steel and copper chips are added on the top of the collector plate of first type solar air heater. The metallic chips also give turbulence to air. Observations are taken from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm and are compared for their outlet temperature and thermal efficiency. The aim of this experiment is to use the scrap material to add some extra heat for a given area of flat plate collector.
