Synthesis of benzocyclobutene derivatives, C3-symmetric molecules and unusual peptides via the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction.

The Suzuki-Miyaura (SM) cross-coupling reaction is one of the most efficient and versatile methods for the construction of C-C bonds. The present thesis discusses several applications of the SM cross-coupling reaction to various molecular frameworks. A brief introduction to the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction with emphasis on recent developments from the literature is included in the first chapter. In view of several applications of the SM cross-coupling reaction, this reaction was applied for the synthesis of various benzocyclobutene (BCB) derivatives and C3-symmetric molecules. This methodology is based on "Building Block Approach" where a series of polycyclic compounds are generated starting from the common building block by simply varying the boronic acids under appropriate reaction conditions. Considering various applications of BCBs and C3-symmetric molecules these end products are expected to find useful applications in polymer chemistry and material science.
