Surface runoff modelling of watersheds with land use from remote sensing

With the increasing need for water due to industrialization, population growth and agricultural productivity, it has become an essential task for water scientists and planners to simulate and optimize the utilisation of existing water resources. To evaluate the existing water resources, practical methods to predict runoff rates and amounts from watersheds are required as this data is not available for most of the watersheds in our country. The main objective of the present study is to develop a practical model to evaluate runoff rates and amounts from the ungauged watersheds incorporating spatial and temporal variations of the watershed and storm parameters. The other objectives are to use LANDSAT data for land use / land cover classification and correlate with overland flow roughness being used in the model simulation and sensitivity analysis of the model.
