Abstract:  Traditionally libraries have the age old barcode system of database management system .The present RFID technology can be effectively put into use by tagging the books. Here the RFID tags are employed in the management of book keeping in libraries. The tags are attached to each and every book so that when it is bought within the range of the reader the entry of the book is done automatically preventing the need of manual labor. This can be done by having separate check out points so that the person with the library ID card can move out with book of his choice. The entry of the book is done in his name in the remote computer placed elsewhere. This also greatly reduces the theft of books as the books cannot be taken out without the entry into the library’s database. Several other advantages include the easy tracking of books within the library if misplaced, efficient handling of large volume of books.
