A PRODUCTIVITY REVIEW THROUGH TECHNO-ECONOMIC ASPECTS

Ginning is the first important mechanical processing activity that cotton undergoes on its way form cotton field to textile mills where it is spun into yarn and converted into fabrics. Ginning industry in India, today present a dismal picture and the machine used at ginnery is old, voluminous with huge and unbalanced capacity. In this paper techno-economic aspect of cotton ginnery work are discussed .

The technical factors involved in the compression of lint cotton are classified as specification of bale, compressive characteristics of lint cotton, suitable engineering design of press equipment, storage, handling, transportation of bale and suitability of package from opening and processing at mills. The economic aspect like size of ginnery, volume of production are discussed. It is
found that techno-economic simulation helps in improving the productivity of cotton ginnery.

The following are the areas for technical aspect of ginning process –
i) Factors Involved in the Compression of Cotton a t Gins
ii) Storage, Handling and Transportation of Lint Cotton Bale.
iii) Suitability of Package from Standpoint of Opening and Processing at Mills
