An investigation was made in determining the flow stress of the AISI-1045 steel which is widely used for moulding applications using  ANSYS 5.4.The effect of stress, strain, strain rate and temperature on the AISI-1045 at high-speed milling conditions and at conventional
speeds using flat end mill cutters with tungsten carbide inserts was investigated.

 

Cutting data for high-speed milling was collected from the international journals and experiment was conducted for the conventional cutting speeds. . It was found that the flow stress decreases with increasing cutting speeds and thus enhancing higher material removal rate in order to facilitate the secondary machining operations of moulding components.
