Health Monitoring System

Unexpected failure of spindle bearings in machine tools is a major problem in production. Unscheduled machine
downtime due to bearing failure usually means hours of repairs, expensive replacement parts, and production time to make
up. Predictive maintenance is of course the answer.. This paper describes a spindle bearing condition monitoring system
applied to the spindle of a NC machining centre. During idle run the acoustic emission and vibrations were measured using AE sensors whih is mounted in near outer race. A large number of tests were carried out with varying sensor location,
spindle rotating speed and spindle load. Measurements were performed in real industrial environment to obtain trends
