A Technical textile is a textile product manufactured for non-aesthetic purposes,

where function is the primary criterion .The market of technical textiles is significant and

expanding as the products are being put to an ever-increasing number of end uses in various

industries such as agriculture, clothing, construction, health care, transportation, packaging,

sports, environmental protection, protective wear and many more .Technical textiles include 

Agrotech  (Agro-textiles) , Buildtech (Construction Textiles) ,Clothtech (Clothing Textiles)

,Geotech  (Geo-textiles) ,Hometech (Domestic Textiles),Indutech (Industrial Textiles) , Medtech

(Medical textiles) ,Mobiltech (Textiles used in transport) , Ecotech (Environmentally-friendly

textiles) ,Packtech (Packaging textiles) ,Protech (Protective textiles) Sporttech (Sports textiles).

Technical textiles have attracted considerable attention, the use of fibers, yarns and fabrics for

applications other than clothing and furnishing is not new phenomenon. Nowadays the most

widely technical textiles have their applications in medical textiles like , (Sutures , wound

dressing and  transplantation of organs), protective textiles  like (flame retardant and  aerospace

textiles,) and  extensively in high performance fibres . All these above textiles include Aramid

fibres ,Carbon fibre, glass fibre, thermally resistant fibres ,chemically resistant fibres. These are

relatively new growing recognition of the economic and strategic potential of  textiles to the fiber

and fabric manufacturing and processing industries. In some of the most developed markets

technical products account for  50 % of all textile manufacturing activity and output. Overall,

global growth rates of technical textiles are about 4% per annum where as the home and apparels

is 1% .
