BIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF VIBRATION AND NOISE

Vibrations arise when a body moves back and forth due to external and internal forces. The human body is an exquisite combination of interacting systems which can be analaysed using multidisciplinary engineering principles. Biomechanical and biomedical engineering combine
the discipline of mechanical engineering with human anatomy and physiology.

Lot of work/ investigations are being carried out in these areas with reference to variety of applications. One such area is Human Body Vibrations. Human vibration is separated in two well–defined
categories whole-body vibration (WBV) and hand–arm vibration (HAV). Whole-body vibration occurs when the human body is supported on a vibrating surface such as seat, floor or bed that is vibrating.

Hand-arm vibration, by contrast, is a form of local vibration where
hand of a person is in contact with a vibrating piece of equipment and the vibration enters the body at the hand.
